Gaziantep University (GAUN), Türkiye

     Gaziantep University (GAUN), named after Gaziantep province, which is a major commercial and industrial center in Southeast Anatolia region, started its education with then Department of Mechanical Engineering, which was established in 1973 under the Faculty of engineering of Middle East Technical University, Ankara. On June 27, 1987, with the addition of various newly established faculties and colleges, GAUN became a legal entity. Gaziantep University, 20 faculties, five institutes, 11 vocational schools, 51,861 students, 1,782 Academic Staff, 3,404 administrative staff are among the developed universities in Türkiye. Gaziantep is the largest trade and industrial center in the west of South-eastern Türkiye. Gaziantep University was founded as a state university in 1987, but higher education on campus began in 1973 when the institute was an extension campus of the Middle East Technical University.
 
     Gaziantep University (including all campuses) has a total surface area of 3,337,737.55 m² and a total closed area of 481,041.00 m². GAUN has a total of seven campuses. The largest of these campuses, the central campus has a surface area of 1,530,847.74 m² and a closed area of 481,041.00 m².
 
     Associations & Accreditation the University of Gaziantep is an individual full member of European University Association. An Erasmus Pilot Project for student exchange was run in the academic year of 2003-2004. The University was awarded an Erasmus University Charter by the European Commission for the period of 2004/2005-2006/2007 and DS Label for the period of 2005/2006-2007/2008.
 
     The objectives of the university are: (i) Cultural, scientific, technical, medical and vocational education and training, (ii) Fundamental and applied research, and (iii) Technical, scientific and cultural exchanges with similar institutions at national and international levels. GAUN is a higher education institution (university and public body), having different departments like Target Technology Transfer Office, European Union Research Centre, Social Involvement Projects Centre and Research Centers in Gaziantep province. The University of Gaziantep having also Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ERAPLUS-ECHE), has always tried to train its students as enlightened, research-minded, scientifically oriented graduates of good character. There is an office namely Gaziantep University European Research Centre (GABAM) in Gaziantep University. The aim of the center is as the followings, (i) In cooperation with official and private organizations; Türkiye’s economic relations with the European Union, to produce research projects involving cultural and technical dimensions, (ii) To cooperate with domestic and foreign institutions, to produce joint projects and to provide resources to international organizations, (iii) To carry out activities in order to train the staff for the realization of these objectives, (iv) Other courses, seminars, meetings etc. that contribute to the purpose of the Centre, the objectives and principles of the Higher Education Law.
 
     For the entrepreneurs in the region, there is also Gaziantep Technology Development Zone Founder and Operator Inc. (Gaziantep Science Park) in the campus. Gaziantep Techno Park incorporates approximately 77 companies carrying out research and development works in areas such as software development, informatics, artificial intelligence, augmented reality and virtual reality, design, consulting, biotechnology, food, machinery and textile to contribute to the region and the national economy. Gaziantep University has a high technological and scientific potential since it includes the important faculties of the region such as Engineering and Medical Faculties and the Research and Application Hospital. The Gaziantep Technology Development Zone, which is registered as Gaziantep Techno Park, provides a suitable environment for the commercialization activities of Gaziantep University. Furthermore, it sheds light on technology companies located in the region about academic knowledge.

Eren ÖZCEYLAN

Assoc. Prof. Dr.
Eren ÖZCEYLAN;  is an associate professor in Industrial Engineering Department, Gaziantep University, Gaziantep, Turkey. He received B.S. and M.S. in Industrial Engineering from Selçuk University in 2007 and 2010, respectively. Then, he received a Computer Engineering Ph.D. degree from Selçuk University in 2013. He was a visiting scholar at Northeastern University in 2019 with support of Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK). His research interests are in mathematical modeling and optimization of a variety of problems under environmental conscious in distribution logistics, including network design, site selection, spatial transportation, and vehicle routing. His work appeared in journals such as Transportation Research Part A and E, Computers and Industrial Engineering, International Journal of Production Research and the Journal of the Operational Research Society. He has three project experiences; two of them were funded by TUBITAK about production & distribution planning and R&D road mapping and one of them is an ERASMUS + youth project about sustainable cities that is still going on.

Aslı ÖZPOLAT

Assoc. Prof. Dr.
Aslı ÖZPOLAT; graduated from Çukurova University, Department of Economics in 2005. Between 2007 and 2009, she completed her master's degree in the Department of Economics at Gaziantep University. Later, she worked as a project specialist at Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce EU Information Centre and in the same year she studied economics and started her doctorate. In 2014, she received a doctorate from Gaziantep University, Department of Economics. Her academic studies have focused on international economics, international trade, competition and productivity. In 2018, she took part in the EU Erasmus Plus KA202 project “Creating an Applicable Curriculum on Occupational Safety and Health for Occupational Safety and Health Professionals”. She works as a project coordinator in the EU Erasmus Plus KA347 project “The Youth in Charge for a Sustainable City!

Ferda NAKIPOGLU ÖZSOY

Assoc. Prof. Dr.
Ferda NAKIPOGLU OZSOY; Assoc. Prof. Dr. in Economics Department. She received B.S. and master degree in Economics and an Economics P.h.D. degree from Gaziantep University. She has been working at Gaziantep University since 2009. Her research areas and publication focus on international economics theory and policy, environmental economics, sustainable development, competition and productivity theory. She is the project coordinator of the EU Erasmus Plus KA347 "The Youth in Charge for a Sustainable City!".

Mehmet Akif DESTEK

Assoc. Prof. Dr.
Mehmet Akif Destek; is an associate professor in the Department of Economics, Gaziantep University, Gaziantep, Turkey. He received B.S. in Economics from Niğde University. Then he received master and Ph.D degrees in Economics from Gaziantep University in 2014 and 2018, respectively. He has been working at Gaziantep University since 2012. His research interests are sustainable development, energy economics and environmental economics. His recent studies examined the solutions against environmental pollution increasing effects of economic growth, industrial production and urbanization. His work appeared in journals such as Energy, Biomass and Bioenergy, Renewable Energy, Resources Policy, Environmental Science and Pollution Research and Journal of Cleaner Production. He has one project experience with the title “Entrepreneurship Youth and Environment” funded by Erasmus + programme of the European Union. He is also ranked among the top 100 young economists according to the REPEC 2019 index.

Ayca ÖZCEYLAN

Lecturer
Ayca ÖZCEYLAN is a lecturer in Logistics program at Oguzeli Vocational School, Gaziantep University. She received B.S. and master degrees in Industrial Engineering. She is currently a Ph.D. student at International Trade and Logistics Department. Before working as a lecturer, she has been an enterprise resource-planning manager in a software company for 6 years. Her research focuses on green logistics and recycling activities. In particular, she focuses on survey methods to analyse the awareness of some issues such as environmentally conscious, green behaviour and occupational health and safety.
