University of Maribor
Slovenia

The University of Maribor is the second largest and second oldest university in Slovenia. It has around 13,500 students and is cared for by around 2,000 employees and therefore plays an extremely important role in the region. It is an autonomous, scientific research and educational institution whose purpose is to discover knowledge, care for knowledge and transfer knowledge through the interconnectedness of humanities, social sciences, technology, economics, medicine, science, law, pedagogical sciences and arts to the wider community.

In recent years, great progress has been made at the University of Maribor in the field of research. Successfully obtained co-financing of high-performance computer infrastructure of the project Upgrading National Research Infrastructures – HPC RIVR, the result of which is the most powerful public supercomputer VEGA in the Republic of Slovenia, means a great contribution to society, including research into the fight against Covid-19. The project UPGRADE OF THE RIUM RESEARCH EQUIPMENT for the purchase of new state-of-the-art scientific research equipment is also extremely important for the further development of the University of Maribor. The high goals, when space is not unattainable, were realized when the University of Maribor recently managed to develop and launch the first SLOVENIAN NANOSATELITE into space, which is already sending the first findings to Earth. Finding solutions for a better future for future generations is the goal of many research projects. Thus, the University of Maribor can boast of an important contribution of its faculties in the DEVELOPMENT OF ELECTRIC AIR TRAFFIC and the recent FIRST EXPERIMENTAL FLIGHT OF A HYDROGEN AIRCRAFT. With recognizable successes in the field of scientific research, achieved with its own knowledge and technology, the University of Maribor thus stands alongside competitive educational and research institutions in Europe and globally.

The University of Maribor is rapidly developing new areas of activity, testing new methods of study and looking for new ways to connect with its environment.

The University of Maribor received the Apple of Quality for a success story in the Erasmus + program in the field of higher education and for special achievements in international cooperation in the CEEPUS program.

At the University of Maribor, we also encourage activities in the field of dual career athletes and athlete-friendly education. Thus, the University of Maribor is the recipient of the ATHLETE-FRIENDLY EDUCATION CERTIFICATE awarded by the Olympic Committee of Slovenia - Association of Sports Associations. The University of Maribor provides athletes with adjustments that can facilitate their education and help them achieve the desired professional education, despite their intensive involvement in top sports.

UM participates in the National Strategic Development and Innovation network in Networks for the transition to a circular economy, established on the Slovenian Smart Specialization Strategy, accepted by the Slovenian Government and supported by the European Commission. Recently, UM has participated in in several related European funded projects: “EIT Urban Mobility – MeAndYou Distribution: Citizen engagement in last mile distribution to improve urban logistics”, “Erasmus + Modern logistics learning: certified module in master study level (MLL”), “H2020 Circular economy platform for european priorities strategic agenda”.
