The seminar on Environmental Sustainability – A debate on environment, Competitiveness and public agendas, was organized by the University of Aveiro in July 2023, at the Dept. of Economics, Management, Industrial Engineering and Tourism. The event was held in a hybrid mode and included the presence and participation of DEGEIT – UA, the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra and two Brazilian universities, the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro and the São Paulo State University.

Topics such as Sustainability (Circular Economy), Competitiveness and the Importance of developing sustainable Logistics strategies, largely involved in an ecosystem guided and regulated by appropriate public policies were a focus of the debate.

Environmental sustainability is a comprehensive concept that consists of using natural resources responsibly to satisfy needs and create value in a balanced and sustainable way so that they continue to exist and can be enjoyed by future generations. Concern for sustainability is important in economic and social terms and is fundamental in reducing environmental problems. This debate aims to address the relationship between the environment, competitiveness and public policies in Portugal and Brazil, in addition to discussing ways to make human activities more sustainable considering the impacts arising from economic development, in addition to the role that public policies play in this process.
